Problems
Economically, Nicaragua is one of the poorest countries in Latin America. Its per capita income is very low, while its unemployment rate soars and external debts accumulate. The distribution of wealth is one of the most unbalanced in the world.
Of all of Central America, Nicaragua has some of the worst drinking water and basic sanitation systems. Inadequate health conditions lead to high levels of infant mortality, which is almost always caused by diseases that could be prevented.
