Country profile
Located in the south of the Asian continent and bordering on the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal, India is divided into three large regions: the Himalayas to the north, the northern Ganges plains in the south and the Dekan plateau in the center. Its capital, New Delhi, is located in the interior part of the country and is a large metropolis with some 14 million inhabitants.
Given its geographic situation, the monsoons condition the Indian climate to be hot and dry eight months of the year and rainy the rest. The best time to visit the country is between October and February.

Problems
India is massively overpopulated. This situation exacerbates the progressive soil erosion and desertification processes which, combined with air and water pollution, make development extremely difficult. The lack of access to education, especially for women, and inadequate health coverage are two other serious problems affecting the country.
