How we at Intervida understand Education for Development

Education for Development is an educational focus which should act, within and beyond the classroom, so that students, teachers and educators introduce into the learning process those tools necessary for building a critical, tolerant and solidary personality. Understanding the causes and consequences of inequalities is a first step towards a personal commitment which, from a local context, contributes to creating global changes.

At Intervida, we understand that in a global world, changes generated in the South should be accompanied by important changes in the North.

This implies the need to provide alternatives to established economic and social models, since these are the root of inequality. To achieve this objective it is necessary to influence the values and schemes which govern the societies in the North, and especially children, since values are founded in the development process.

Children must be made capable of analyzing their surroundings and forming their own questions so that they can build, according to their own criteria, a critical attitude and commitment with regards to the society which surrounds them.

How we act in this area

Intervida provides various educational tools to divulge contents and procedures for education for development, since the classroom is the place where children are socialized and thus one of the key factors in the formation of their values.

Our interest is focused on providing the educational community with pedagogical resources and materials which facilitate teaching, and on encouraging leisure and informal education through enjoyable and entertaining activities.
