Education

Education is regarded as a factor in development and a universal social and individual right. We understand education, both formal and informal, to be a permanent process. And we consider school as an institution integrated within the framework of the “educating society”.

Intervida supports a model of sustainable educational development through its mutual commitment with various actors and with the teachers themselves. Together with the aim of increasing educational access, the organization also proposes an increase in educational quality.

Health

Health is a fundamental component of human development. A healthy population is one which enjoys an appropriate level of educational, social and economic development.
The Health sector seeks to guarantee access to medical and health care to people and communities. This includes:

  • Making sanitary services and care more accessible to the population.
  • Improving community access to drinking water and sanitation services.
  • Establishing a program of integral community prevention, with emphasis on hygiene and prevention, to guarantee improvement in the communities’ health indexes over the mid to long term.
  • Undertaking efforts to support Government health services.
Community Organization

This division works on projects aimed at providing the community with the tools and knowledge needed to advance in the development process.
When formulating a development plan, it is important to consider the level of cohesion in the community, as well as the community’s capacity to take responsibility for its own development.
This division works to consolidate the communities’ organizational capacity through educational workshops, and by training and educating leaders. This effort to consolidate a sense of community is undertaken in both rural and marginal-urban areas.

Economic Development

This aim of this division is to develop productive projects and programs for commercialization and business development. There are two phases of implementation: in the first phase, efforts are made to achieve community self-management. In the second phase, efforts are concentrated on production and the sale of surpluses and elaborated products in the marketplace.

All projects are respectful of the environment, guaranteeing the sustainable use of natural resources. Crop diversification is aimed at improving families’ nutrition and producing surpluses which can be sold, while ensuring that the integrity of the soil is maintained.
