How we work
In Intervida, the North and South work hand in hand as associated entities, based on a mutual dependence towards achieving a common goal: the fight against poverty.

In the North , our work is based on the following principles:
- Financing
- Our development projects are financed through the system of sponsorship, as well as through donations, company support and public funding, which enables us to optimize the development projects which benefit the sponsored child’s entire community.
- Awareness-raising
- One of our objectives is the diffusion, among the various societal actors, of information related to development and cooperation. The aim is to create critical conscience and promote social action on issues related with the most immediate problems affecting disadvantaged countries.
- Education for development
- Raising children's awareness of the need for cooperation towards development is encouraged both inside and outside the classroom through programs and initiatives which help them understand the importance of reducing poverty and establish processes of change within society itself.
In the South, we work with associated and local Intervida entities and partners, based on the following foundations:
- Associated and local Intervida entities:
-
- Decentralization:
- The countries in which projects are carried out make proposals which address the needs of the beneficiary communities. Decentralization is also considered when opening entities in new countries.
- Focus:
- In the South countries, Intervida is comprised of a Central Office and the TERRAs, or “Territories of Active Solidarity”. A TERRA is a well-defined area in which we concentrate our development efforts. For us, the long-term concentration of social investment in a specific area is a necessary strategy for achieving development and improving the economic, social and environmental conditions of the communities with which we work.
- Partners:
- To implement our efforts in different countries, Intervida complements its integral development model by selecting external partners in the South. Our criteria is that their projects coincide with our organization’s philosophy and that these efforts can be strengthened through our economic, technical and other support. Based on prior study and evaluation of the requesting organization and the project to be co-financed, Intervida can either provide all or part of the resources needed for the project’s execution.
