  • We pass with flying colors!

    We pass with flying colors!

June 20th: classes are over and the grades are in, an acknowledgement of our dedication and a job well done.

For Intervida, school isn’t out (we continue working), but we did get the highest grade: the “IX National Laurel for Environmental Protection 2008”, an award given by the Environmental Fund of El Salvador (FONAES), an entity of the Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources, in recognition of our efforts to protect the environment in the smallest country in Central America, El Salvador.

A country affected by various environmental problems, it is estimated that El Salvador generates more than 2,300 tons of solid waste a day and that only 69% of its municipalities have garbage-collection services. Furthermore, over 50% of the land is inappropriately used , some 4,500 hectares of land are deforested each year, 70% of the activities which generate sewage do not have corresponding treatment, and more than half of the rural population do not have access to drinking water or sanitation systems.

With Intervida’s “Sustainable Environmental Management” and “Community Development” development programs, we contribute to meeting some of these needs in the Departments of La Paz, San Vicente, Usulután, La Libertad and Morazán. We also support the communities and the municipal governments in conducting diagnostic studies on the state of the water basins, and in carrying out projects aimed at solving the problems detected.

    We continue working...

  • Thanks for counting on us

    Thanks for counting on us

Your collaboration has allowed us to go from being a project to being a reality: we have counted from 1 to 18,600.

    1 week on-line
    141 T-shirts
    2,400 users
    8,000 votes
    18,600 visited sites

Now we would like to become something bigger, we would like for more people to know this project, because it is unfair that thousands of children have to work in order to survive. If you have not done so yet, join our campaign and make a move.

  • Design, vote, move... sensitize.

    Design, vote, move... sensitize.

We are celebrating the World Day Against Child Labor with a special launching: the young, fresh and interactive campaign ‘Do It Yourself , que no lo haga un niño’ (Do It Yourself , Don’t Let a Child Do It’).

In its first phase, the campaign will be based on the site www.hazlotumismo.org, from where we would like to raise awareness of a problem that affects more than 218 million children in the world, who must work in order to survive.

And we invite you to join the campaign in a special way: we want you to design and vote the official T-shirt for the campaign. In an easy and quick way, you can upload your own design and invite your friends to vote for it so yours is the elected T-shirt.

On our website you will also find information on the different forms of Child Labor, be able to download books on the subject in the Documentation section and follow the evolution on the Campaign Logbook.

We need your creativity so that we can all take this campaign very far. So now you know what to do: design, vote, move... sensitize.

  • Solidarity that suits you best

    Solidarity that suits you best

There are many ways to support a cause and we propose one that you can take with you whenever you want...Wear a solidary tee-shirt!

In the online store camisetasolidaria.org you will find 8 different tee-shirt models for both children and adults. And every time you buy a tee-shirt you will be collaborating in two ways: on the one hand you’ll be helping to spread our campaign, and on the other hand, you’ll be supporting the development projects which we carry out in the most disadvantaged countries, since all proceeds from these shirts are destined to this end.

  • Changes which are tangible... and sustainable

Changes which are tangible... and sustainable

Our development projects have to be sustainable, both at an economic and environmental level. For Intervida, this is a priority and it is for this reason that we aim to us renewable energies.

Many communities with whom we work are in places which are hard to access and are lacking in many things, on of these being electricity. To solve the problem, Intervida implements projects such as the “Electrification with Renewable Energies” project in San Vicente, El Salvador, where it has managed to provide electricity to the La Joya community through the use of solar panels.

Dorotea Vásquez, one of the beneficiaries, explained to us that “we have fought for a long time to have energy for our community, but because of the distance or the cost of the project, we weren’t able to get it. It was difficult. The people used candles, oil lamps; the smoke from the oil lamps is harmful to one’s health and the homes filled will smoke”. After a diagnostic, Intervida implemented the project, producing a tangible change in the life of the community, in its day to day lives and in its commercial activities. As Dorotea explained further, “I have had my little store for some time. I sell things which help me get by, sweets, bread, beverages. Before, when it started to get dark, I closed the store. Now that I have energy, I can stay open into later at night”. In addition, awareness is being raised as to the sustainability of the project and the responsibilities it brings with it. As Mrs. Vásquez continued to explain, “we have a quota, we all save in case there is a problem with the pieces and we have to fix these. If we have problems to pay, we meet with the fund collectors and we set a time in which to pay”.
