World Population Day
Today is a special day: World Population Day. Around the world there will be cultural events, theatrical performances, meetings, seminars...The United Nations’ message for this day comes in the form of the slogan: “Plan your future: Plan your family”. According to Thoraya Ahmed Obaid, Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund, assistance in birthing and family planning is essential to the development of the community, which is why it is necessary to introduce health services to women in the communities where they live.
At Intervida, we believe that this is the path to follow and we are already working along these lines in communities in Bangladesh, India and the Philippines. In addition to offering health care to pregnant women, providing them with training on infant care and hygiene, we also organize informative sessions in which the health teams explain the functioning of the reproductive system and ways to prevent sexually transmitted diseases.
Today is a world day for all of us. Let’s join together to promote women’s independence and give them access to reproductive health care.
