Survival is not enough
The majority of rural areas in India use agriculture only for subsistence, meaning that they make no profit from this practice; as a result, income levels in these rural areas are extremely low.
To rectify this situation, Intervida works to promote agricultural activities aimed at generating income, and not self-consumption, such as the cultivation of medicinal plants, goat-breeding and beekeeping.
In the case of bee-keeping, Intervida seeks persons interested in creating this type of cooperative and puts them in contact with the Beekeepers Association of Pune (India) so that they can be technically trained. The professional beekeepers explain the entire process of raising bees and collecting honey to obtain products and later be able to commercialize these.
Beekeeping consists in the domestic raising of bees for the extraction of honey as a primary product, although beeswax and other products are also obtained in the process. It begins with the search for a queen bee, which is removed from the hive and placed in an artificial wood frame. Once there, all the drones and worker bees go to her and dedicate themselves to gathering nectar and producing honey.
It is not enough just to survive. Intervida is committed to improving the quality of lives of the communities with whom we work.
