What is Education for Development?

What is Education for Development?

Education for Development should be one of the strategic aims of educational and cooperation policies, but its definition and objectives do not always establish clear limitations. This document proposes a vision of the diversity of its concepts and fields to action based on a two-fold approach: on the one hand, its theoretical evolution is reviewed parallel to the evolution of the term “development”; on the other hand, it conducts an analysis of the works of various authors and organizations to determine a common denominator of the concepts and actions which are –and which are not – characteristic of ED. Based on these conclusions, a theoretical framework of reference for Intervida’s ED is proposed, while also presenting a retrospective and critical vision of what has been and is being done in terms of ED, not only in Intervida but in other organizations.
