  • Intervida helps a group of bee honey-producers in El Salvador improve their skills and income

    · Small farmers face difficulties, such as poverty – 36% of rural homes are poor – and the lack of technical training and skills. · They produced more than 2,000 liters of honey in 2007, which represents an important economic benefit for these beekeepers. · This year, efforts will include the search for new markets, continued technical trainings and the reforestation of 2.27 hectares with nectar-poliniferous plants.

  • Intervida promotes sports practice to counteract the culture of violence in the southern Sudan

    · With this project, INTERVIDA aims to establish ties through sports and other activities towards encouraging peace among young warriors and members of historically affected communities. · If the population meets regularly to practice sports and other activities towards peace, young warriors will be better able to express their needs, aspirations and difficulties. · Ethnic problems and political differences are issues which, despite their importance, take a back seat to more vital issues such as hunger.

  • Intervida supports sociocultural projects which help children and youths integrate and socialize in Colombia

    · Children and youths in Colombia struggle daily with problems such as violence, illiteracy, a lack of educational and cultural spaces and poverty, which affects more than 12 million minors under 18 years old. · In 2007, four schools in Manizales, attended by more than 3,200 students, participated in the sociocultural projects ‘Strengthening reading’ and ‘Shared living spaces’. · This year a more ample program will be carried out in more municipalities, including new activities, such as artistic expression, educational resource activity for teachers, social and job training and guidance, and organization and management for development.

  • Intervida denounces the fact that 30% of rural homes in Mali lack basic sanitation

    · INTERVIDA Mali has implemented the ‘Hygiene and Sanitation in the school environment and community’, through which they inform, raise awareness and train the communities towards changing hygiene and sanitation practices. · The lack of water is among the latent causes of the 10 million child deaths around the world each year, of which nearly half occur in sub-Saharan Africa. · The lack of essential basic services, combined with inadequate hygiene practices, are a main cause of the high incidence in the illnesses derived from poor water conditions.
