Over 80 Intervida collaborators visited the organization’s projects in 2007
Madrid (09/07/2008). A total of 81 children were visited by their INTERVIDA sponsors last year. Many of the collaborators took advantage for summer vacations to travel to the countries and visit the projects personally. Of the 81 visits made in 2007, more than a third of these took place between June and September.
Paying their own trip expenses, INTERVIDA collaborators increasing show their interest in getting to know personally their sponsored children and the projects which, thanks to their collaboration, the organization runs in pursuit of the sustainable human development of some of the most vulnerable communities in the world.
Giving relatively short notification – it is recommended to advise one month prior to the travel dates – the collaborators can travel to the community when they wish by simply sending and email to viajes@intervida.org or calling 902 19 19 19. INTERVIDA provides all the information necessary, maps and instructions on how to reach the community they wish to visit, and once there the local team receives them and advises them on everything else they need.
Travel to the projects is always an interesting and enriching experience for the sponsors, since it enables them to understand firsthand the harsh reality of the lives of their sponsored children and their communities, as well as the projects which the INTERVIDA team undertakes to improve their living conditions.
In addition to visiting the countries, collaborators can also maintain contact with their sponsored children through letters. The sponsors can write as many letters as they wish to the children and his or her family. To ensure that these reach their destination, sponsors can send these letters to the central office in each of the countries where INTERVIDA works. However, it is best not to send packages or gifts as these may be lost before reaching the organization and those that do reach their destination may create differences between those who receive packages and those who do not. For health reasons, the authorities in these countries do not allow entry and any kind of food, regardless of packaging.
