F.C. Cadiz collaborates with Intervida In the third edition of its school meet with schools in Cadiz

Madrid (16/04/2008). F.C. CADIZ celebrates today, April 16th, its 3rd School Meet, in which the Club has invited all schools in the province of Cadiz to participate in an entertaining day at the Ramón de Carranza football stadium. This event, which includes several acts, also has a solidary side, since the club from Cadiz has proposed that attendees donate used books so that these can be read by the children and adolescents in the Cultural Centers which INTERVIDA runs in El Salvador.

F.C. CADIZ cannot ignore that many children around the world do not have access to a free, quality education. For this reason, it has asked the students attending the Meet to collaborate by donating a used book, which will then be given to INTERVIDA. This NGO, as part of its educational project with the Youth Centers in El Salvador, will distribute the donated books so that the children and young people of El Salvador can interact with one another through fun, educational and cultural creation.

The books will be collected at the end of the football match between F.C. Cadiz and F.C. Cadiz B, and each child will come to deposit his or her book in the center of the field; this way, we will be able to see how this improvised library grows little by little. While the donations are being made, the scoreboard will show a counter registering the number of books collected. Additionally, starting on April 14th, the F.C. Cadiz offices, on the ground floor of the grandstand of Ramón de Carranza stadium, has been open to collect books donated by club members.

The aim of this event is to teach young children to enjoy football without violence, encouraging them to root for their favorite team without resorting to insults or defamations, but rather by instilling in them respect for others, comradeship and teamwork. On the other time, it is also interesting to teach children the importance of practicing some kind of sports activity from an early age.

Among the novelties of this third edition of the School Meet are the Game for Childhood, which will be played between F.C. Cadiz and F.C. Cadiz B team. The school children can also participate in a Banner Competition.

INTERVIDA’s Cultural Centers project is developed in various countries, among them El Salvador, and seeks to address the problems which are faced by the adolescent population, particularly those living in rural areas, given the scarce or inexistent opportunities for development offered by their community due to poverty and a lack of resources. With the 14 Centers in El Salvador, the organization supports over 30,000 adolescents and young people between 12 and 25 years old and helps to create a space which enables them to access training, recreational and leisure activities based on the protagonism of the young people themselves. INTERVIDA is aware of the need for young people to have spaces which address their needs and interests in this phase of their lives, and the need to have a space where they can enjoy all types of activities and trainings, receive information relevant to their lives, access culture, organize events, and meet, chat, and simply, hang out.

At the same time, one of the necessary characteristics of the Youth Center is the implementation of a management model which leans towards sharing this responsibility with the young people themselves in a long-term process which will combine action and reflection, training and putting into practice.
